My best artwork this semester is my Artists Work in Series artwork. It was my best artwork because it turned out the best and I feel really good about it. The one artwork I wish I could redo is my Artists Observe one. I would want to redo it because there is nothing to it really. It doesn't feel like I tried very hard to make it even though I thought I did try hard because it took me awhile. Something I learned in art class that I can apply in to work in my other classes and outside of art is that doing something or working on something that I love or something that means a lot to me is way more fun and interesting to do. Like my artists work in series artwork, I care about the earth and fixing it because I want to be able to live a long life but the earth needs to be in good shape. One thing I wish I could've done in art is something with clay. Even though this is painting class, I think it would be interesting to maybe have a little clay project so that maybe, if you haven't already, take a clay class.

Artist StatementThe title of my artwork is Save Our Planet . It is a series artwork with three separate canvases. The biggest one says 2050, and the other two small ones say 1500 and 2019. The three different sections have different colors of the earth to show how bad the earth is actually getting. I created my artwork by sketching everything out first and cutting out paper the size of each section of the earth. Then I painted three different shades of green making them get darker and three different shades of blue making those get darker as well and painting them on separate pieces of paper then cutting them out in different shapes. Most of them were triangles. Then using mod podge to glue them on the paper. Then I painted the background of everything along with the letters and lastly I glued on the pieces of the earth to the canvases with tacky glue. The big idea behind my artwork was to create something that means something to me and saving the earth was something that popped into my head right away. My goals for this artwork was to make it look super close to how I picture the artwork in my head and I did. My overall thoughts on my final artwork is that it turned out good and I really like it. Standards EvidenceFor my artwork I made something that was meaningful to me and that was an artwork about saving the earth. I considered everybody to be my audience because everyone should consider looking into saving our planet and many people already think we should save our planet. I would put my artwork in a spot that many people would see it so that it has a big impact on everybody. I would think the hallway that the library is in. My person belief is that if we don't help the earth now, in 2050 or sometime near that, it will be gone and we need to act now before it is to late. Art reflects life because it shows us how things are in life and life reflects are because we taking our life and put it into our art.
My artwork is of a TJ MAXX shopping bag. It opens up and on the inside I have four of mine and my mom's favorite places to go. I painted the Caribou, Panda Express, Taco John's, and Peak Physique logo on the inside. The first three are our favorite places to eat/get something to drink and Peak Physique is a place where she works out. Sometimes I go with her to workout. I made my art with paint, paper, and string. I first sketched out the bag and then painted on the logos. Then I cut out a paper and painted the Tj Maxx logo on the front and put a picture on the front. I splattered paint for the background because I didn't really know what to do. I was thinking of actually painting a background but it's kinda too late for that. Then I taped the paper on the front of the bag so it can lift up, then I glued down the strings. The big idea behind my artwork was to make something for my mom. My goals for this artwork were to make a shopping bag because my mom and I always go shopping together and those places are our favorite places to go for food. My overall thoughts of me artwork is not the best. I wish I would've done it different, but I felt rushed trying to find an idea because I had no idea what to do. So overall, I don't really like my artwork because there is nothing to it. It doesn't look interesting. Standards EvidenceI seeked out input from others at multiple stages throughout my artwork. I consistently asked my table/people close to my table if I needed to add anything to my artwork or needed to change anything. At first I didn't really know what I was going to do but Mrs. Underhill helped me find an idea. I reflected on the feedback from others when I asked them about if I should add anything to it while telling them my idea and using their feedback. I made revisions on my artwork when Jetta told me the color of my logo didn't look right I layered the right color on top. I choose a canvas as my subject, acrylic paint as my media, and I didn't use a specific style. The message I am trying to convey is that I like to spend time with my mom and I am really close to her. When there was a problem with my artwork I tried to figure out what to do, like when mixing paint to find the right colors for my logos. Overall I didn't have any problems, but when I did I solved them Independently.
For my artwork I'm going to make something for my mom. I seeked out input from others at multiple stages throughout artwork. At first I didn't know what to do, but then Mrs. Underhill helped me think of something eventually. When I finally came up with an idea I asked her and the people at my table if it sounded good and if I should add anything to it. I'd also ask them if I should change something when painting it. I reflected on people's feedback I got. I asked people at my table if the color looked close enough to what it should be they'd tell me if I needed to add a color. Same as with my artwork if I need to add something I forgot. I made revisions on my artwork. When Jetta told me the color didn't look right in one of my logos, I layered it with a different color until it eventually looked right. I choose a canvas as my subject, acrylic paint as my media, and I'm not using a specific style, but the message I'm trying to convey is that I like spending time with my mom.
For my next artwork I'm going to make an artwork dedicated to my mom because I'm really close to her and she does a lot for me. At first I didn't know what to do and then Mrs. Underhill helped me out and we came up with an idea eventually. I'm going to paint a TJ Maxx shopping bag on a canvas and make the front side of it open up. I'm doing a shopping bag because we go shopping a lot together, especially at TJ Maxx, and on the inside of the bag I'm gonna put our favorite places we go together. I'm also gonna try and paint a picture of us together on the front, otherwise, I'm just gonna print one out because I don't really know how I feel about painting it.
Target EvidenceI made observations about my artwork and thought about what I was going to use to to make my artwork so I looked at using either watercolors or acrylic paint, but I still looked at trying different things. I explored new media and techniques and ended up using watercolor to try and make a cloud and I liked the way it turned out. Then I started to paint the girl from the "Umbrella Girl" artwork and make her look realistic instead of black and white. I also didn't put a face on her. I researched new skills and techniques when using the watercolor to make my cloud, I used a technique where you take paper towel and dab the wet watercolor to make it look realistic. I also figured out how I was going to make my background. I practiced these new skills by finishing my cloud, I started to finish painting the girl and after I finished painting the girl I painted the background and then put everything together. Artist Statement
This week we have been talking about different artists and appropriating their art. The artist I really like is Banksy. An artwork of his is "Umbrella Girl" and it inspired me to appropriate it. Appropriation is where you are taking pre-existing objects or images and alternating it. There were two different ways I was thinking of alternating it. I was thinking about taking both the umbrella and lines hanging from it off and putting a cloud that is raining on her and then making the background sunny. I'm gonna try different media like using the acrylic paints and trying watercolors to make the background.
Since the last time I blogged I have made a bunch of new things. The first thing I made was a color wheel, then I made a tints, shades, intensities, and dulls chart. They were all fun to make because I love mixing all the colors. After that I grabbed some paint color examples and mixed paint to try and match it to the examples. Throughout the whole process of me making all the charts and mixing paints I made a mini self portrait. I messed up near the mouth and didn't realized I put too dark of a shade there. I also made a tiny painting. I just kinda started to paint random colors and eventually I was making clouds on it. Then lastly I just finished up my Watercolor Techniques chart.
As an artist I am getting better at making art by trying new things and figuring out what I like.
I hope to learn how to make things look more realistic because I just like the look of it. A risk I will take is trying out different textures. My goals for myself are to create art that I feel proud of making and spending time on it. |
